Biography
Diane Reeves’ interest in art emerged at the young age of twelve, when along with her aunt, grandmother, and older brother; she visited several cities and towns in Europe. Every day presented many wonderful new sights and experiences; they even stayed a few days and nights at an exquisite French chateau! The beautiful landscapes, vibrant cultures, incredible architecture, and inspiring works in the Louvre and other European museums, opened Reeves’ eyes to the world of art. Growing up several years in Europe also provided similar valuable experiences, cementing her love of traditional painting, sculpture and architecture.
She strives to capture subtle nuances of color and light, to record serene moments as well as the unique character of special people, intriguing places and interesting objects. Her brushwork is purposefully varied, from loose and painterly to finely detailed, depending on the mood and focus of the painting. Whether painting figures, a still life or portrait, Reeves chooses timeless subjects, giving what may seem commonplace a greater sense of importance. Everyday scenes and objects seem transformed, providing an awareness of the precious moments we otherwise often overlook.
“Most of all,
Diane Reeves
